Chickens
So here are some of my chickens. I'm currently at 11 chickens, prodomitaly they are Roosters. Which was not intentional. When you buy them as chicks its a crap shoot on what you come up with. At first when we originally got the chicks we had 14. One died within 2 weeks. The rest did well to adulthood. However after about 6weeks of being outside during the day predators began coming on to the property. We had 3 coyotes constantly stalking the chickens and managed to kill and take away two of them. In the photo's there is a solid grey banti chicken and a white pullet with some black markings on its neck and tail, those two are the ones that were killed. We still have the two's siblings. We no longer let the chickens out of the hen house. The last four weeks we have also had bobcats that have been scooping the chickens out. Mark has seen one bobcat that is approximately 4 to 5 years of age. Full adult weighing in at about 60 to 70lbs. The other I have seen with him that was right outside our door was a year old bobcat that might have been about 40lbs. Neither fear humans like the coyotes. Both will stand there and stare at you, even have the nerve to attempt to get inside the hen house while your standing there. So in the event of predators we have decided for now to keep the chickens in their little home instead of free ranging. Next year were hoping that we will have more chickens as they have in the last four to five weeks have been producing eggs. That is the one female. We have maybe 3 or 4 females. One of the English Reds is producing. As winter approaches she'll slow down and eventually stop producing through winter. And hopefully next year she'll give us babies to raise. So these are my beautiful chickens. Not all are shown, but at least one of each kind is in a photo. We have 6 different breeds from Egyptian, Pullets and Banti's.
